Story
A few years have passed since the cliff hanger conclusion of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent, in which Agent Sam Fisher undertook a particularly dirty mission, full of questionable actions, in the shadow of the inexplicable and unmourned death of his daughter. Fisher is now a renegade operative digging into the events of the past and he doesn't like what he has found. His personal investigation into his daughter's death reveals that he's been betrayed by his former agency, the Third Echelon. The agency responds by pursuing him, but as he works to elude them he becomes aware of a deadly terrorist plot that threatens millions. He is uniquely positioned and prepared to act against this, but success is doubtful without the help of former friends from the Third Echelon team, resulting in a series of life and death situations for himself and the country where trust can by no means be assumed.

Gameplay
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction, as with all games in the Splinter Cell series, is a tactical stealth-action game. In single player modes players take on the role of Sam Fisher and engage in a series of missions utilizing high-tech weaponry, gadgets, lethal hand-to-hand combat and interrogation skills. Overall objectives and the necessary steps to achieve them are challenging, yet always clear via dual verbal and visual expression that seamlessly alerts players as they progress through missions. In addition, Conviction enhances the world of stealth combat that has made the Splinter Cell franchise a runaway hit for years through a series of revolutionary new gameplay features. These include:
  • Mark and Execute - A gameplay mechanism for eliminating several enemies at once, Mark and Execute allows players to "Mark" multiple enemies, or points in the surrounding environment for termination in batches. Once this is done, a close-combat kill is required, after which the player can activate the "Execute" portion of the mechanism to dispose of all enemies in a cinematic manner. A limited amount of Mark functionality is attached to players' weapons, so this ability must be used wisely.
  • Last Known Position - Last Known Position is a visual representation of where the game's AI assumes you are, based on where you were last sighted. This provides players with a wide array of options, including setting traps for enemies, flanking maneuvers or simply disappearing while you are thought to be elsewhere.
  • Experience System - Successful completion of objectives via the Persistent Elite Creation System earns players rewards in the form of experience points. These can be used to upgrade weapons and gadgets that will allow for cleaner, quieter and more deadly attacks.
Co-op Story Mode
Prologue, the co-op story mode included in Splinter Cell: Conviction is available either in split-screen local play or via Xbox LIVE. Prologue offers an exclusive prequel campaign to that found in single player mode and features new characters and settings, three difficulty settings, three sub game modes and four maps. Designed to stand apart from, as well as supplement the single player campaign, gameplay mechanics available within it include shareable Mark and Execute target points and Last Known Position, as well as teammate revival functionality via a portable defibrillator, the ability to work with a teammate to eliminate enemies who have captured you, and more.

Key Game Features
  • A New Level of Splinter Cell Action - A full arsenal of cutting-edge innovations allow you to outflank foes with the Last Known Position system, tag and eliminate enemies using the Mark and Execute feature, and much more.
  • Blockbuster Experience - A unique storytelling style keeps you on the edge of your seat as you navigate the explosive world of a renegade agent where trust is impossible and justice requires you to go above the law.
  • Jaw Dropping Visuals - A revolutionary new graphic direction delivers an utterly seamless gameplay experience that’ll keep you totally engrossed in the story of Sam Fisher.
  • Explosive Xbox LIVE Play - Addictive multiplayer modes, content downloads, messaging and voice support and more amp up the dramatic intensity like never before.
  • An Exclusive Co-op Story Mode - "Prologue" is an exclusive story mode featuring new characters, settings, four exclusive maps and more. It is only available within Conviction's Co-op mode.

Heavenly Sword

Heavenly Sword Review

The difficulty shouldn't stop you from owning this game though. Anytime I'd run across something extremely difficult, I'd still pop the disc in to play earlier stages. I must say I'm surprised that this game didn't get more attention and that they marketed the game solely on the sword. Don't get me wrong, the swordplay makes God Of War feel almost childish, but the real bliss of this game is in the "aftertouch" mechanism. Anytime you throw or shoot an object, this gives you the ability to control the movement of that object with the six-axis AND gives you a birds eye view of the movement. It's one of the most addictive additions to any game I've ever played. The graphics and voice acting here are superb. It looks and feels amazing. You also get control of 2 characters throughout, not just the one shown on the box. The other quirky little arrow shooter you get to play with reminds me of Bjork. And I rather like that. But I digress...

Bottom line? PHENOMENAL. Certain aspects of this game can be found nowhere else. But some of the prompts are frustratingly fast-paced and some of the bosses are simply too difficult to be fun.

Heavenly Sword Feature

  • The Heavenly Sword itself can transform into three distinct weapons, each with its own accompanying fighting stance used by Nariko to vary combat styles.
  • The combat engine can scale up from sophisticated one-on-one encounters to one-on-many, where enemies employ intelligent squad-based dynamics, right up to combat against battalions pushing real-time gameplay and (AI) to unprecedented new levels.
  • The physics-based combat allows players to sweep debris against opponents, kick tables to halt an oncoming surge of fighters, smash the enemy into the scenery, or throw bodies into other enemies using “aftertouch” controls.
  • Heavenly Sword provides a wide range of objects & weaponry including rapid fire crossbows and massively damaging bazookas.
  • Coupled with real-time story evolvement and amazing set-pieces, Heavenly Sword feels like a blockbuster action movie that takes combat gameplay to new heights.

Heavenly Sword Overview

Emotionally charged, stunningly beautiful, and delivering unprecedented dramatic character performance, Heavenly Sword™ showcases the power of PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system. A dramatic tale of revenge sees Nariko, a fiery red-haired heroine, embark on a quest for vengeance against an invading King and his army. The story builds around the ancient Heavenly Sword, which once belonged to a powerful deity. It can never be wielded by a mortal without it slowly but inevitably draining their life-force.

When the invading King (played by Andy Serkis) destroys the warrior clan that guards the Heavenly Sword, the clan leader’s daughter, Nariko, takes up the sword in a desperate fight for survival. Nariko must now pay the ultimate price as she embarks on one last mission of vengeance against the King and his army before her life is finally and irreparably overtaken by the omnipotent Heavenly Sword…

Medal of Honor

Medal of Honor Review

This game is being constantly bashed my MW2 fans. The biggest flaw in the marketing of this game was to compare it to, and suggest that its a contender to MW2. Its simply not the same game. The majority of negative reviews stem from the fact that EA touted this as a MW2 clone more or less, which got all the MW2 junkies on the bandwagon only to be depressed and angry. Its not the same. Its a completely different game, and when looked at alone, not comparitively its a solid game.
Modes:
Campaign:
Decent, but short. Great story, realistic gameplay. Sliding into cover should be incorporated in every FPS from here on out, works fantastically. There is always the opportunity to go back and try a harder difficulty.
Tier 1 Mode:
tough.........replay each mision of the campaign, with a maximum time limit, and no respawns or checkpoints..........
this trumps a veteran difficulty level where you can just figure out a route and sprint to a checkpoint then die and start right there..........
Multiplayer:
BFBC2 on smaller maps, made by the same BFBC guys, I enjoy it, I have put in about 6 hours online and its got the same issues they all have, spawn killing, campers, etc........graphically it excedes BFBC2
Bonus:
Medal of Honor Frontlines remastered (ps3 only)
I never played this before but I have been enjoying it alot. Its a solid FPS from the days before spawn killers, online, and nuke boosting.

Overall:
The campaign has some glitches, some that shouldn't have made it past testing, but oh well, there are a few in every game that comes out. The story is great. Graphics are average for the campaign, and above average, but not the best, for multiplayer. The online is constantly compared to MW2 which is very different, there are no "steady aim" perks that allow you to wildly spray ammo around. If you try running around you will get shot. The goal is realism, and while not perfect, it gets closer than the others. You run around a corner and a guy is crouched there, you are dead, he will see you before you get your gun up from a sprint, thats reality, but will frustrat the hell out of players that are used to running around with light step and marathon, jumping into prone and spraying dual p90's all over the screen...............

EA screwed up comparing this game to MW2, but in the end, its a decent game, two if you count frontlies, which i do because its a solid little game on its own. For me, it was worth the sixty i put out and twenty i got back in GC form. Any review that says this isn't MW2..............unless thats all you like, read on, because people that play other games will appreciate this game much more than those that think COD is all there is..............

Medal of Honor Feature

  • In addition to multiplayer the game features a deep single player campaign in which players guide the storyline of multiple Tier 1 operators, as well as an Army Ranger
  • Elite Special Forces combat set across the rugged Afghanistan landscape, introducing players to the role of the Tier 1 Operators in the US military
  • Developed by the world-class team at DICE (makers of Battlefield Bad Company 2) the game's fast paced combat delivers the perfect mix of tactical warfare and all-out action
  • The game supports up to 24 players in online multiplayer modes

Medal of Honor Overview

Operating directly under the National Command Authority, a relatively unknown entity of Operators. Over 2 million Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines wear the uniform. Of those, approximately 50 thousand fall under the direct control of the Special Operations Command. The Tier 1 Operator functions on a plane of existence above and beyond even the most highly trained Special Operations Forces. Their exact numbers, while classified, hover in the low hundreds. They are living, breathing, precision instruments of war. They are experts in the application of violence. The new Medal of Honor is inspired by and has been developed with Tier 1 Operators from this elite community. Players will step into the boots of these warriors and apply their unique skill sets to a new enemy in the most unforgiving and hostile battlefield conditions of present day Afghanistan. There is a new enemy.

Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5 Review

My wife and I bought this game several months ago and we have played it almost every night since. It is that fun and addicting! You can tell this game was designed for co-op play with 2 players. Although you can certainly play it in single player mode with no problem--the computer will simply play the second character for you. This was our first "shooter" game and it took two evenings of playing to get used to the controls to the point where we could aim and fire the weapons fairly well. If you're not an experienced gamer you'll probably be frustrated by continuously dying the first couple hours you play until you get the hang of how to use your weapons. Persist past this initial difficulty and you will love this game. It has 4 difficulty levels, so as your skill increases you can put it on harder levels and still have a fun challenge. Basically, your first time through the game will probably take you several days as you take on a chapter or two per day. The computer saves your progress as you beat each chapter. This way you can either go back and play any chapter you've already beaten or else continue the story and go on to the next one. The game has lots of "unlockable" content as well as "downloadable" content if your game console is hooked into the internet: additional costumes for the characters, mini-games within the main game, etc. Once you complete the entire game once, you unlock a mini-game called "The Mercenaries" which is a short (from 2 - 7 minutes)and very intense game where you are in a confined area swarming with zombies. Your goal is to not get killed while killing as many of them as possible before time is up. This, again, can be played either single player or co-op with a partner. It's fun but also difficult and frantic. Also, once you beat the game once you can play through again in single player mode as either of the two characters, whereas before that you can only play as Chris, the male character. The game has lots of weapons (handguns, shotguns, rifles, machine guns and others . . .) that are found as you play through the game. One of the addicting things is trying to collect enough money (in the game you find gems and sacks of gold) which you trade in to upgrade weapons. Fully upgraded weapons can have unlimited ammunition. Replaying your favorite chapters with infinite ammo on your favorite weapons is a lot of fun. After you've played through the main game and gotten tired of it you can play the Mercenaries game mentioned earlier or even download mini-games from the internet for a small fee. There is a downloadable game called "Desperate Escape" which is just like the main RE5 game but with two different characters and it is great fun. Well worth the cost. The only negative I can think of is that since the game is violent and somewhat graphic, you can't play it when younger kids are around. We wait until our daughter is asleep before playing!

Resident Evil 5 Feature

  • Tackle a horror-filled mission as Chris Redfield from the original ###LT!!!i###GT!!!Resident Evil###LT!!!/i###GT!!! or Sheva Alomar, a West African agent of the BSAA
  • Take advantage of the new, two-player online co-op mode to double your team's effectiveness in the face of a new breed of evil
  • Use new weapons to defend yourself when faced with hordes of faster, smarter enemies
  • Explore the remote desert setting of Kijuju with highly-developed, detailed game environments
  • Experience groundbreaking graphics and effects delivered by an advanced version of Capcom's proprietary MT Framework engine

Resident Evil 5 Overview

The biohazard threat has not ended: Just when it seemed that the menace of Resident Evil had been destroyed, along comes a new terror to send shivers down player¿s spines. Chris Redfield, returning Resident Evil hero, has followed the path of the evil literally around the globe. After joining a new organization, Chris heads to Africa where the latest bioterrorism threat is literally transforming the people and animals of the city into mindless, maddened creatures. He is joined by a new partner, Sheva Alomar, who lends her strength, intelligence and sharp-shooting skills to the mission. In order to survive, Chris and Sheva must work together to take on the challenges of discovering the truth behind this evil plot. Utilizing a revolutionary new co-op mode of gameplay, players will be able to assume control of either Chris or Sheva and experience Resident Evil in new ways. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Review

I have been a long time player of the metal gear series all the way back to when he debuted on the Nintendo Entertainment System. This game is not the final mission of Solid Snake. I beg to differ, may I say something a little cliched? It is only the beginning. This latest edition to the Metal Gear series sets the tone for the "final battle" between long foes. Snake has aged in the game series to an old man; but fear not later in the game you can unlock the face-camo that shows snake as a young snake. You travel from continent to another tracking liquid and trying to finally find him. You meet up with familier allies: Colonel, Raiden, Otacon, Sunny, Meryl, Zero, Solidus, Liquid, Vamp to name a few. But this game holds non-stop action. You will finally be revealed the reason why Snake is aging so quickly. Be on guard for a lot of cut-scenes cuz Hideo Kojima displays a lot of in between "mini movies" so the actual gametime is really approx. 2-3 hrs of actual time if you stormed through it without stealth. But for those of you who are die-hard Metal Gear fans who grew up with the series back in the mid 1980's era you will want this.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Feature

  • Although little is known, MGS4 is being touted as the final installment in the Metal Gear Solid series.
  • Chameleon-like camouflage system, Octacamo, blends Snake into his surroundings.
  • Loads of characters from previous Metal Gear Solid installments will return in this final chapter.
  • Slated for simultaneous worldwide release in June 2008, Konami has released very few details about MGS4.
  • Built for the PS3, the game is expected to be the finest representation of the console's graphics

Prince Of Persia Le X360

Prince Of Persia Le X360 Review

I actually agree with most of the other reviews here. This game does not hold a candle to the sands of time series in gameplay, character appeal, or story. So separating it from those masterpieces, what do you have?

Prince of Persia is a visually stunning game that does eventually make the game more of the fantasy I believe the developers intended. You can indeed find yourself stopping in points in the game just to look around at the beautiful background scenery.

The story works but is a bit shallow. And the ending? I won't spoil it, but I am amazed that some people actually enjoyed the ending. I found it to be one of the most disappointing endings in recent years, one that makes you wonder why you played the game in the first place.

Character appeal: Elika is your Farah from the sands of time series, and she works very nicely into this game. She grows on you quite fast, and is very likeable. The dialogue between her and the prince, which is incredibly redundant and annoying at the beginning of the game, develops into a intimate tension between the two as the game proceeds. The prince, in my opinion, is the biggest disappointment. He is not a prince, more like a nomadic thief, and has a dull and sarcastic personality. Elika, which is also quite beautiful and looks great in the game, is a deep contrast to the prince, which looks like a homeless bum wearing a long red scarf in an old arabian village. The out of place red scarf, which he states he wears for luck, covers part of one eye and looks like something a failed 80's rocker would wear. Your best bet is too change into the skins that you can unlock with codes on the menu screen, so that you don't have to deal with the stupid personality AND the stupid appearance of the prince.

Gameplay reminds you of the old series, with wallruns and climbs and swings. There is a couple new maneuvering techniques such as roof climbing and using elika to double jump. It does take you back to the series but with a slightly new feel, which works great. The game takes an interesting approach to dying though. You can't die. No matter what you do, elika will save you and you will start back on solid ground before you "almost died." This takes away some frustration, but also takes away the accomplishment and excitement that could be present.

Overall, I still like the game, and you can download the epilogue from xbox live, which is an alternate ending of sorts (I am having problems with loading the epilogue saved games at times though). It is also much more challenging than anything in the game. If you are a diehard fan of the series and assassins creed type, and can separate this game on it's own, I think you will enjoy it as well.

Assassin's Creed: Director's Cut Edition

Assassin's Creed: Director's Cut Edition Review

Assassin's Creed. Wow, what an amazing game. You've got a good story, gameplay, graphics, and its open world. What more can you ask for? Yes there are a few bugs but nothing you couldn't get past. This is my review of Assassin's Creed.

Story 10/10 - The Date, September 2010. You play as Desmond Miles who was kidnapped by Abstergo. He is being forced to use a machine called The Animus which is a machine that reaches inside the genetic memory of ones ancestors. Attempting to reach the memory needed Desmond's mind blocks it. He has to now become his ancestor Altiar. His life takes place in the Third Crusade 1191 AD and is part of a clan that follows The Assassin's Creed. Altiar breaks the creed and is stripped of his rank. He has to now redeem himself by doing taks that his master gives him in the cities of Damascus, Acre and Jerusalem. Along the way as Desmond and Altiar you find out what secrets and betrayals. What is it Abstergo is looking for? Play and find out.

Gameplay 7/10 - The gameplay is something new. As Altiar you take the abilities of the Assassins. Free Running (Parkour), weapons (Swords, Hidden Blades, Throwing Knives), and the hits. They usually concist of, climb to the top of this, rescue some people here, easedrop, pickpocket, and beat up. It becomes tedious after awhile due to having to do that just to get to your target that needs to be assassinated. But not enough to make you give up. The free running is amazing, sword fighting is fun, and so on. When introuble you can either run out of site, hide, or blend in as a monk.

Graphics 9/10 - Next Gen graphics are here. The enviorment is amazing and beautiful, detail in face and voice acting is on hit. The game looks beautiful and the music goes well with what is going on. The only flaw you may see are a few things bugging like his lower tunic, but that's far and few.

Overall 8/10 - The game is a classic and is a great start in the trilogy. I enjoyed playing Assassin's Creed and is great for replay. I did it mostly for the Achievements. Things become repetative but moving past that it had a sold great story, looked amazing and was a wonderful play. Assassin's Cred gets a 8/10. If you enjoyed this game look for the newer titles Assassin's Creed II which is already out in stores and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood out in stores November 2010.

Metroid: Other M

Metroid: Other M Review

Lets start by saying that although I own almost every Metroid game, with the exceptions of Metroid II and Hunters,I'm hardly the biggest Metroid fan out there, and I guess that allowed me to enjoy this game for what it is,a solid action game. While I have played and finished the excellent Prime Trilogy, and Super Metroid various times,I believe that Other M has become my favorite game in the series, simply because it is a very good game, with great graphics,a solid, albeit slightly convoluted story, fun and fast paced gameplay, and an excellent orchestrated score.

A big issue with many players seems to the be the control scheme,I barely had any problems with it at all.Sure,at the beginning changing between 1st and 3rd person will feel a little awkward, but as you play on they become a non-issue,at least to me they did.As for the whole "switching views during boss fights" concern, the big majority of boss fights rarely require you to use your missiles during the regular fight, but when they do the boss will always have a brief moment when they stagger after repeated assault with the power beam,or when they start charging some sort of beam or attack, which gives you an opening to use your missiles, which means that you're not supposed to try to use your missiles in a "willy nilly" manner. As for clearing a room full of enemies, dodging and using your charged power beam will clear the room with no problems, especially when you get the first improvement for the Power Beam, and onward.

While I understand that opinions will always runt the gamut from "terrible" to "excellent" in anything in life, but in my honest opinion, this is "excellent".Maybe over time, the "This is not Super Metroid 2,which is what I wanted" feeling will turn into "This is a great Metroid on its own right",which is what happened with the great Prime Trilogy. Now,off to finish getting all the items in the game.

Metroid: Other M Feature

  • Metroid - Other M takes the best elements of 1st-person and 3rd-person gaming to create a seamless blend between game play, story-telling and dynamic cinematography, that feels like a movie you can control; you can hold the Wii Remote controller sideways while navigating and battling in 3rd-person; however, at any moment, you can switch immediately to Wii Remote pointer controls to examine and explore the environments in 1st-person perspective
  • Metroid fans know more about Samus' suits and weapons than they do about what drives her; that's about to change, the story begins immediately following the events of Super Metroid, when a baby Metroid gave its life to protect Samus, with voice acting and a rich story, you will learn the engaging back-story of Samus as she weaves through an action-packed adventure aboard the Bottle Ship, a decommissioned space facility; as she hurtles into this new adventure, Samus will encounter her first men
  • The development of Metroid - Other M is an exciting collaboration between Nintendo's Yoshio Sakamoto and Team Ninja; Sakamoto was the director of Super Metroid in 1994; Team Ninja is the renowned action developer of Ninja Gaiden. Metroid - Other M pairs Sakamoto's expert level design and exploratory focus of the classic Metroid series with Team Ninja's signature stylish, no-holds-barred action

Metroid: Other M Overview

Metroid Franchise’s Heroine Gets Personal. For decades, Samus Aran has been known as one of the first female protagonists in video games and one of the most enigmatic. Having traded her haunted past for the solitary life of a bounty hunter, Samus finally tells her own tale in this revealing, personal story of her failings, her flaws and ultimately her motivation. Metroid: Other M is an unprecedented collaboration that blends the slick, action-packed production of the world-renowned Team Ninja development team with the game design talents of the creators of the original Metroid. Metroid: Other M is a dramatic new direction for a legendary franchise and a bold new blend between cinematics, storytelling and the best in interactive entertainment.

Devil May Cry 4

Devil May Cry 4 Review

I'm a little new-ish to the devil may cry series, my brother got DMC 3 and I thought it was quite hilarious, the gameplay was awesome but i never played it much (pc version, obviously a console port and i'm not too fond of those for performance reasons and controls.) but i rather liked it, and my 360 needed a few more titles so i bought this alongside Lost Planet: Extreme Condition for a few bucks. i gotta say though, its now my absolute favorite game ever! it wasn't as funny as dmc3, bit more of a serious storyline i guess, didn't really understand the intro video where nero is fighting the scarecrows or whatever those bug filled human shaped sacks are called, however.. the fast paced hack and slash action mixed with the intriguing puzzles and graphics just completely took me. i haven't gotten through it just yet, but from how much i've played i can tell you that it is very much worth trying out, especially for the low price i got it for. i even liked it so much as to buy a devil bringer and red queen (Nero's arm and sword) off of xstreet on second life for my avatar :D

overall: GEET IT!! xP

Devil May Cry 4 Feature

  • New characters and environments while blending the familiar with the new - Newcomer Nero clashes with veteran Dante
  • Signature blend of guns and swordplay
  • Deep combo system rewards stylish dispatching of enemies. Unique "Devil Bringer" arm opens up a range of combo options.
  • Exceed System allows Nero to charge up his sword with a throttle effect, revving up to three levels with powerful attack options
  • New active style change system for Dante allows him to switch styles and weapons on the fly, producing crazy combo possibilities

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Review

This game is an excellent example of "quality over quantity". This game may not have multiple modes or may not focus on other components, such as multiplayer, but the one thing it does (campaign) it does it superbly. The campaign is excellent and the storyline and gameplay keeps you absolutely hooked. Add to that, the excellent graphics that this game offers. Do yourself a favor, if you own a PS3, you must purchase Uncharted: Drake's Fortune!

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Feature

Mirror's Edge

Mirror's Edge Review

Purchased this game for my Playstation 3 about a week ago. First off let me say that the game concept is great, I like the whole Parkour idea that was put in the game. The graphic are also amazing as well, I liked the use of colors throughout the levels, although I do wish there was a little more variation in the level design it starts to get repetitive towards the end. On the down side the game is rather short it didn't take me too long to finish it and the combat in the game can be a little frustrating. Overall I would say the game was enjoyable, I was able to purchase this through amazon for about 11 dollars so I can't say I would have been nearly as thrilled with this game had I purchased it for full price.

Mirror's Edge Feature

  • Heroes Emerge - A young woman without a home until she is taken in and trained by the Runners.
  • Your incredible gifts allow you to swiftly navigate the city while eluding those who would try to stop you.
  • Go Vertigo - Heights create vertigo, movements flow naturally, collisions are felt realistically, and muscles and tendons strain as you chase and are chased throughout the city.
  • Slip off the Edge - Perform amazing acrobatic moves from below street level, through buildings, and up to the dizzying heights of hyper real skyscrapers as you face off against your enemies or run for your life.
  • Unrivaled Immersion - An exciting mix of chase, intense combat, strategy and puzzles draw you into a world like never before.

Mirror's Edge Overview

In a city where information is heavily monitored, agile couriers called Runners transport sensitive data away from prying eyes. In this seemingly utopian paradise, a crime has been committed and now you are being hunted. You are a Runner called Faith - and this innovative first-person action-adventure is your story. Mirror’s Edge delivers you straight into the shoes of this unique heroine as she traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat and fast paced chases. With a never before seen sense of movement and perspective, you will be drawn into Faith’s world. A world that is visceral, immediate, and very dangerous. Live or die? Soar or plummet? One thing is certain, in this city, you will learn how to run.

Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed Review

Assassin's Creed is one of the best games I have ever played. The storyline is intense, the gameplay, controls, and combat magnificent, and the graphics top-of-the-line.

STORY:
Assassin's Creed is about a man named Desmond who is kidnapped by a company that wants him to go back in time and control one of his ancestors using the Animus: a strange machine that allows access to "cell-memories" (a common theory that memories are passed along down generations through cells in the body).

In the Animus, you take control of an assassin, Altaïr. You start the game with all abilities and weapons, but as you control Altaïr, his actions get him in trouble, and his rank and most of his equipment is stripped. I have not finished the game yet, but for most of it (as of now), the rest is spent assassinating 9 characters in the game's three cities. When you assassinate each one, you will be ranked up and get a new ability (or two) and a piece of your equipment back. Each time you assassinate a boss, they will speak cryptically. Altaïr begins to think perhaps something is up -- all of these men believe that what they are doing is right in every way, that they are saving people, not harming them.

GAMEPLAY:
As Altaïr, you have incredible agility and speed. You can scale buildings and jump from rooftop to rooftop in mere seconds. When you're in combat, Altaïr can perform deadly maneuvers with his two types of combat-ready swords. He also possesses a hidden blade in his sleeve that you can use to silently kill anyone. Be wary, though. If there are many witnesses around, they may catch on that you just killed someone.

Crowds add a sense of realism to the gameplay, with everyone reacting to you and what you do at any moment. If you run like a madman through the city streets, you may hear whispers of "he's going to hurt himself," or "what's gotten into him?" Scaling a building, you can hear "what is that man doing?". Every move you make is constantly being watched by someone, and if you act too suspiciously, the guards will catch on and begin to attack. Don't run into them, or they'll attack automatically. Beggars will follow you asking for money (though there is no way to do this, so if you're annoyed, either ignore them or switch to fists ("4" key) and give them a good ol' punch in the face). Drunks and mental patients will push you away when you get near, and thugs will attack you if you get into a fist fight with them or someone nearby. The AI is very intelligent.

NOTE: Guards will NOT attack if you get into a fist fight (unless you get into a fist fight with a guard).

When you are caught by the guards, their actions and your escape are exceedingly unique, in that, if you climb a building, so do the guards. If you run, guards along the way will attack or leave you be depending on how close they were to where you first got caught. Finally, your escape methods are different. You have to find hiding spots, but the way that it works is that there is an icon in the upper-left corner of the screen: when it is red and in the shape of a triangle, you are in full view of the guards and you have to keep running. If it's yellow and in the shape of a triangle, you're out of view of the guards and have to find a hiding spot fast. When the icon is a blue triangle, you're hiding and slowly becoming "anonymous", the word the game uses to mean "not in trouble and not suspicious". Finally, when the icon is gray and flashing green, you're safe. You can hide in many places, most of them being piles of hay, little "rooms" on rooftops, and benches where other people are sitting. If you're on a high building and below you on the ground is a hay bale, when you jump off that building, Altaïr will do a sky-dive maneuver and land straight in the hay.

Some people may be offended by the comments made in the game -- as it's taking place during the time of the Crusades and in Israel, Christians were largely persecuted. You will hear protestors on the street complaining of the "Christian King and his infidels". I also seem to remember hearing the "British King and his infidels" once, as well. Altaïr never explicitly shows what religion he follows and tends to remain neutral in his assassinations. The game also is not portrayed as being "pro-" anything. It also states at the beginning of the game right after the "Ubisoft" ad that it was created by a large group of people with diverse religious beliefs and customs.

Finally, the game uses a unique "synchronization" method in gameplay. Synchronization is basically Altaïr's health bar -- when he's fully synchronized, he's at full health and can use the special "eagle eye" ability. You lose synchronization in a few ways, either by falling from heights, getting hit when in a fight, and killing innocents. When Altaïr dies, you are "desynchronized" and must restart from the nearest Checkpoint (luckily, there are many checkpoints along the way -- you are never left wanting for one).

CONTROLS:
The controls take some getting used to, but are extremely imaginative. On the default settings, the shift key controls the "non-fighting" hand, the space key controls the legs, the E key controls the head, and the left mouse button controls the fighting hand. Holding down the right mouse button will allow you to perform a number of actions, such as run and block.

GRAPHICS:
The graphics are simply spectacular, but you need a very powerful graphics card to use them on the highest settings. I get fairly high FPS, even on the highest possible settings, using my EVGA e-GeForce 9500 GT 512 MB DDR2 PCI-E 2.0 Graphics Card 512-P3-N954-TR. Every texture is rendered incredibly and that coupled with lighting, bloom, shadow, and multisampling make the game have a very realistic feeling.

BOTTOM LINE:
This game is a must-have, though if you are easily offended by comments against Christians, be warned as there are some not-so-nice comments made that are supposed to help the game be more historically accurate.

As I stated above, the graphics are spectacular but require a fairly good graphics card to run with a decent framerate.

The storyline is innovative and creative, exploring parts of history that not many know of. The combat is difficult, but satisfying, and the stealth-action genre has received another great addition to its collection.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Review

I'm just joining the chorus to say that this game is really good. I'm not much into the genre of kill-everything, shoot-everything type games, but this game had me intrigued from the beginning and then it started getting even better. Although there certainly is a lot of shooting, killing, and throw-down, there's also a lot of suspense, beautiful graphics, great acting, and an interesting story-line.

It was actually the Shambhala related story-line that intrigued me. Shambhala is a mythical kingdom that comes from the Kalachakra tantra cycle of teachings in Tibetan Buddhism. It is the origin of the term "Shangri La" (a mispronunciation of Shambhala). As someone very interested in the Kalachakra tantra, I was wondering what this storyline would be about. How amazing that the main character, Drake, is after the Cintamani stone (Wishfulfilling Jem -- familiar to all Buddhists) on a chase that takes him to the mythical/mystical kingdom of Shambhala. There is even a point where Drake finds himself in a Tibetan village, and everyone is speaking Tibetan. (Perfect, real Tibetan -- a language I've studied!) At various places, a giant statue of Vajrakilaya, a phurbu (ritual dagger), dorjee (vajra) and various other Tibetan-related artefacts and references come into play. So, that's an added bonus if you're familiar with all this. If not, at least it's of some educational value for people who may not know much about Tibet and its endangered culture. So props to the designers for doing their homework.

But, of course, what keeps one's interest are the hair-raising chases, near-misses, and the excellent storyline involving two lovely ladies and some really remarkable graphics and acting. What more could you want? The game has my heart pacing most of the time I'm playing at it. Probably good for me, for cardiac health, but maybe not advisable if you have a weak heart!

Assassin's Creed II

Assassin's Creed II Review

First let me say I love this game. I recommend it to anyone who likes period piece action games, with a bit of puzzle solving. And the game is VAST. Well worth the money.

That said there are a few minor issues I had with the game that if remedied, would have made it the perfect game for me.

1) I had just played the first Assassins Creed, and found it lacking. It was repetetive and frankly boring. Although I liked the graphics in the first game more. They just seemed less cartoony, a bit more dirty and realistic. My complaint pertaining to the switch from the first game to the second, however.....KEEP THE CONTROLS THE WAY THEY WERE!!! I spend the ENTIRE course of playing the second game trying to exit the map the way I did the first game. Changing the controls were pointless. Its a minor quibble, but annoying.

2) Get rid of the feathers. People complained about the flags in the first game and rightly so, as collecting them gave you.....NOTHING. And although theres a reward for collecting feathers (spoiler!) in this game, its a weapon I never used during the course of storyline gameplay, and then a cape that is useless as, from what I understand, doesnt protect you at all. Also, the map has the locations of the treasures. Why not the feathers?

3) When Ezio becomes flirtatious with the interactive female characters during the story, I think to myself....here we go...a love interest. This is an adult game, nothing wrong with that.....it doesnt have to be God Of War graphic, but SOMETHING would add a dimension to the game. Except NOTHING ever happens. I counted no less than four major female characters in the game I assumed soemthing was going to happen with, and it never does. Not only does it NOT, but a few of them play a large role, flirt with him, and then DISAPPEAR.

4) The money situation in the game is awkward. You have little to nothing at the beginning, waste your time searching for treasure so you have enough for armor and weaponry, then when you get it all.....you become overly flush with nothing to do with it. I have over 300000 francs at the end of the game. Pointless. Time the monetary returns to coincide with the game more.

5) Some of the gameplay aspect flutters out at the second half of the game. At the beginning im climbing MASSIVE church towers for viewpoints, and at the end its a generic barn or small building. Seems lazy.

6) At one point in the game you are taught (by on of the females who flirt-disappears) how to leap up while climbing. Very useful. Except when you are trying to climb a building in a hurry. Suddenly what you had done before so quickly becomes an exercise in patience as you clumsily climb up the side of a building.....not to mention that the button to leap is the same one as the button to drop. Very awkward.

And lastly, the online downloadable content. Lazy. Filled with bugs. Out of context, unimportant. Not worth the money. There were entire conversations with no audio (thank god for subtitles).

With all that it may seem that I hate this game, which is untrue. Just wanted to vent a bit, since it was so close to a great game for me. And since (spoiler) at the end of the game they make it clear theres another one coming.....hopefully someones listening up there.

    Lost Planet 2

    Lost Planet 2 Review

Im gonna start by saying this game single-handedly eliminated all credibility I had for game reviewers. Pretty much every negative point stated by this people is false. The game is pretty much perfect in what you`d expect from a shooter.
Graphically there is not much to say. The game looks fantastic, your character is nicely detailed as are the imposing Akrid. There are some graphical glitches here and there particularly clipping. Music and sound effects are dead on with pumping musical scores that accompany the action and awesome weapon sound effects. (I just love the pumping sound of the rocket launcher reload ;)). The controls are tight and responsive.
In terms of replay value this game has tons, so its defenitily worth a full retail price in that this game will last you for some time. The campaign is lengthy (around 15 the first playthrough) with multiple difficulty modes to tackle. Then there`s the multiplayer which is shockful of playmodes and every battle is hectic and action packed. Then there is the training levels which help you hone your skills as well as serve as a challenge arena which reward you with points to use in the slot machine where you buy your upgrades, perks, weapons, and other goodies. The only complain I do have in this part is that there are way to many useless stuff (emotes, war names) that you might get over the good stuff (abilities, weapons). Although I like those extra things I just wish the ratio of extras to perks was more balanced. Still its kinda fun hitting the slot machine to see what you get.
This game is heavily focused on co-op. For me thats a huge bonus. Being able to play with friends, having to support each other in order to survive is one of the most fun experiences I can have in a video game. Not only is the co-op evident in the campaign but also in some multiplayer modes (special note VS annihilator). But if you choose to go solo I wanna say that if you have never played a shooter or simply lack the common notions of a video gamer, then you can believe what reviewers said, if not you will; as I did; find absolutely nothing wrong with the AI or difficulty of a solo play. If anything solo is kinda easier since the death of the AI partners dont count only yours unlike co-op and the AI IS helpful, it just wont win the game for you. Of course the game is much more fun with friends or human companions but its still enjoyable and challenging on your own. I highly recommend it.

    Lost Planet 2 Feature

    • A truly massive scale of enemies, and a rewards system in which players will receive rewards for assisting teammates and contributing to the team's success against them.
    • An unbelievable variety of Vital Suits and new ways to use them. The new VS system will have a powerful impact on the way the player takes to the war zone in Lost Planet 2.
    • 4-player co-op and split-screen co-op locally allowing you to team up to battle the giant Akrid. Teamwork is the player's key to victory as team members are dependent on each other to succeed and survive.
    • RPG elements added to the game include character customization, experience points, evolution of the game based on players decisions and actions (single player).
    • Beautiful, massive environments brought to life by Capcom's advanced graphics engine, MT Framework 2.0, which reflects the next step in 3D game fidelity and performance.

    Lost Planet 2 Overview

A decade has passed since the first game, and the face of E.D.N. III has changed dramatically. Terraforming efforts have been successful and the ice has begun to melt, giving way to lush tropical jungles and harsh unforgiving deserts. Players will enter this new environment and follow the exploits of their own customized snow pirate on their quest to seize control of the changing planet. Players will control their heroes across 6 interconnected episodes, creating a truly unique interactive experience that changes depending upon the actions of the players involved. The intense and action packed campaign mode comes with the ability to form teams of up to 4 players online to clear mission objectives with friends. Lost Planet 2 has a huge variety of hardware for players to unleash on unsuspecting enemies. Machine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, lasers, sniper rifles, grenades and a host of other weapons are scattered across the game. However, Lost Planet 2's biggest weapons come on two legs: the heavily armed and armored robotic Vital Suits return in greater numbers and variety than the first game. There are VS that transform into other vehicles, hold up to three players and some that even take multiple players to operate.
