Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within Review

I really wanted to luv this game. I tried very hard to get past the annoyances. I tried but after completing it I thought "Finally! Sheesh!"

PoPWW is a great game. There's no arguemnt there. It has an engaging story that is well written and acted. It has exquisite environment, costumes and level designs. It has beautiful graphics and terrific sound design. The fighting techniques are creative and effective and can be easily executed.

Many kudos.

So here's the "but": The camera movement drove me batty. It can be such an inconvenience at the wrong time and the game became very frustrating to play. That along with the controls that switched from up to down with the angles, made this game almost throw my PC out the window.

This is an issue that most 3rd person games have since the original Tomb Raider- so why is it that designers still use these assanine techniques? Beats me.

Saving was also REALLY aggravating. There are "save fountains" that you drink from and you save at your current location. That's fine but why are they situated in the most inopportune places? Can't the players simply save anywhere?

The positives outweigh the negatives considerably which brings my overall experience with PoPWW to an excellent but annoying thumbs up. Keep in mind, this is my FIRST Prince of Persia game that I've played so I hope past and present version are just as fun or more. Preferrably more...

extremely fun... is an extraordinary understatement!!! - Z.M. - Grass Valley, CA USA
this is a very good game... no matter what anybody else says this game ROCKS!!!

gameplay: it's really easy to get used to it...and if you fall or die somehow or do something wrong... you have time powers!!! so you never really die... and they enable you to do really cool stuff too. and the combat system is really fun... i mean it's not everyday i die after killing a room full of enemies and i have the great joy of doing it again!!!

story: the story is very well done... it even has an alternate ending. i would say it should be made into a movie, but it already is... so the story is really that good!

replay value: it is really good...i played the game 4 times it was so good and i never had any trouble with glitches or any crashes.

graphics: there not great but there good... and it runs smooth on pretty much any system as long as you have a good processer.

music: the music is the best!!! most of the songs are from a cool band called godsmack... and they are really good...

if you don't get this.... you will never forgive yourself!!! NEVER!!!

it is the best game i've ever played... well besides devil may cry, timeshift, the witcher, and oblivion.... this game is in my top five... and thats hard to get up to.... REALLY HARD!!!

just get it.... you'll love it.... gauranteed!!! :) :)~ :P B-) ^.^

P.S. it works on 32bit and 64-bit versions of vista!!! :D

Haven't finished but it's a bust.. - Denise Thorbjornsen - RI
It's far harder to play this one compared to prince of persia the sands of time even with a walkthrough I will be scratching my head (and that's the video one that gives you step by step tutorials)

this story wasn't to my liking I'm sure some like these type of in depth games if you like a very hard game buy it..otherwise don't.

Not such a good sequel... - Michael Fairgrieve -
I saw this game in a 3-pack at the store with Sands of Time and The Two Thrones, and my cousin highly recommended I play them being the versatile gamer I am. I played Sands of Time and had a pretty fun time with it. It had a good, original feel to it that I had never experienced before, and I was glued to the game for the two days it took me to complete.

Then I started Warrior Within. At first I loved it. The new look combined with the music made this game seem like a heavy metal music video on steroids. The gameplay was relatively the same as SoT, but there are some new moves and things thrown in to make the combat more versatile (which was my only complain about SoT). After playing it for a few days though I began to lose interest in this game. The monsters are typically too difficult for the casual gamer like myself, and I found the puzzles and forms of mobility much more tedious than in SoT. Perhaps I should have started this game on easy, but I decided to start on normal, and I already feel as though this was a mistake.

The thing that should stand out the most about this game is the movement forwards and backwards through time. I don't know about you, but time travel is always an intriguing subject to center a game around, especially when this game takes place on an island of ruins, but still I felt as though I was let down with the presentation. Then of course there's the Dahaka, which you'll learn more about if you play this game. I didn't get far enough to run into him more than a couple times, but I felt as though he was quite overrated and easy to overcome during the chase sequences.

Warrior Within just wasn't my idea of a good sequel. I've played to about the point where I've discovered around half of the island, and I'm not sure if I'll play anymore. I liked SoT because it was much more about the puzzles and the overcoming of obstacles than fighting countless enemies. This one is pretty much the opposite. I'm all for combat-based games, but somehow that didn't seem to work with me here. After playing SoT I guess I just expected the trend of that game to continue.

As of now I've skipped Warrior Within and started playing the Two Thrones, which I'm finding much more enjoyable. All aspects of that game seem to be in a much better balance, and I will continue to play it because of that fact. Warrior Within, however, came up short in my book. I would recommend skipping this one, or at least trying a demo before getting it, as I was quite disappointed.

Good Platformer - J. Kulhanek -
With the huge lack of platform games on the PC, the prince of persia triology does not disappoint. I actually deleted my game on accident twice; however, the game as a whole looked great, the gameplay was fun, and the performance was polished; as a result, I had no problem going through it a third time and finally completing the game. The only drawback to this game is the horrible sound track, I don't understand what the developers were thinking. But it's easy to put on some decent ambient music on your music player in the background while playing the game. The voice acting was off-sync at certain parts of the game as well. These minor flaws however don't take away from the good aspects of the game. I give this 5 stars and recommend it.
