Prince of Persia 3-D Review
I've played and finished all three games in this series. Several times! The story line and puzzles keep you in suspense with good action too! I would love to see another entry in this series. I would have liked to see a more exciting cinematic on game completion but I thought the rest where really good. The puzzles are challenging and the sword fighting is excellent. The graphics are very good.
One of the great things about the first two games in this series was that the character's motion was much more natural and realistic than anything else on the market at that time. This game might be a drop below others of its time in the graphics and motion department but the graphics are still very good. To complain about the graphics is like complaining about a new Ford because there is a BMW available on the market. A Ford might not match a BMW but it's still a great car!
I've noticed that some people have complained about controlling the prince. My advice, use the number pad on your keyboard and you shouldn't have a problem. With a little practice you should not have a problem. If the camera angle is in a bad place, use the Enter key on your number pad to get a good look around (see the game instructions).
If the game seems slow or choppy, lower the resolution and gamma. Play this game in a dark room so you can keep the gamma pretty low.
The gore level (or lack of) was something that disappointed me a bit. When a wall blade killed the prince in POP2 you would see blood on the blade and the wall. The only blood you see in this game is in some of the background scenery and it's not much. High gore just means that the head is actually separated from the body if the prince walks through a blade. In low gore the head stays attached. There is no blood at all. I don't really call that gore. I don't play games just to see gore though so that doesn't reduce my overall opinion of the game.
One more note, there IS enough time in the last stage to finish. You just have to know how to use your weapons! By the time you get there you should have had enough practice for that. You cannot save in the middle of that level. If you don't make it you have to start that level over. I've done it more than once though so it has to be possible!
In short, great game! Highly recommended!
Prince of Persia 3-D Overview
The release of the classic side-scrolling platform game Prince of Persia changed computer games forever. Designer Jordan Mechner expertly wove elements of sword-fighting action and adventure game puzzles to create an addiction that was both easy to learn and fun to play.
Over 10 years have passed since Prince of Persia's debut, and computer game technology has improved exponentially. Red Orb Entertainment puts that technology to good use in the attractive Prince of Persia 3D, the third--and hopefully not last--title in the popular series.
Players assume the role of the Prince of Persia, who's once again forced to fight through an increasingly difficult set of areas to track down the kidnapped Princess. During the adventure, you'll battle guards, bandits, and other evil henchman while utilizing a varied selection of melee and bow weaponry. Crafty level design ensures plenty of familiar lever, floor panel, and rope-swinging puzzles. (Watch out for those spike traps!) Maneuvering the Prince within the new 3-D environment is perhaps the only minor gripe; lining up jumps and navigating tunnels with the sometimes too-fast Prince can become a tricky endeavor. Boasting startling 3-D graphics, dazzling levels, and familiar, easy-to-learn gameplay, Prince of Persia 3D should both delight old fans and collect many new ones. --Doug Radcliffe

Ahead of it's time - A.M.Boughey - Rochester, MN
This game has been around for some time, but the PC graphic quality and gameplay stack up against anything new out there. Very simple to play, but extremely challenges as the game progresses, this will keep you occupied for quite some time. There are those who will complain that "It's not as good as" but if you want some inexpensive fun, this is a very good platform adventure game, that is better in many ways than a lot of it's rival titles
Prince of Persia 3D - Knewace - The other side
Prince of Persia 3D is a third person game with a very long and hard single player gameplay. It is a platform jumper and the third sequal to the side scrolling pop games. Set in the 12th century persia the plot is the usual, villan captures princess, prince is in jail, prince escapes from the jail, fights baddies, get's through deadly obstacles, kills the villan and rescuses the princess. Only this time all the action is in third person 3D. Pop3D lives upto the other pop games in level design. The level design is very good and the puzzles are very well done. All of the levels are very long from prisons, castles, docks, snowy mountains, castle in the air and floating ruins, The levels are very hard and very fun to get through. You have to get through deadly spikes, run through a door before it shuts, grab a rope in mid air ect. Third person prespective is a good choice for the game but the view is very badly done. It is hard to control the prince. You have to do a lot of tedious jumping but it is very hard to do so because of the way the prince moves, he moves as if he is walking on a slippary floor. The combat is the most problem in the game, because after the prince draws his weapon he cannot move and it is hard to fight gaurds. The review at game center said that if the player keeps on hitting the Q,W,E key which is the default left, right, center attack keys the other person can be defeated easily, armed with the sword weapon it worked well and was very helpfull in fighting the gaurds.
Prince of Persia 3D is built on an ugly engine. The graphics are very bad graphics, charecter animation is very ugly, box-of-rocks enemy AI and many clipping problems. I dont mind if the graphics are bad if the gameplay is great and the gameplay here is great and fun, but the game runs very unsmooth, the framerates are bad. The load times are also very long, but thankfully the quick loading is almost instant as you will die a lot of times. Pop3D was a very fun game, I loved playing through all the levels and solving puzzles. I did not face any crashes or hangs too, I did face save game errors but the patch fixed it. The biggest and only problem with the game is the unsmooth built engine. Alas! if only the created a better engine or used an established quake3 or unreal engine.
good intentions, but they did not live to the game - -
The promise for this game was awesome. However, even with a very good PC specifically loaded with hardware for games, the Prince of Persia 3D was an unfulfilled promise. That is, the flaws make the game not worth it. I guess the engine game is the one to blame. Interestingly that, designed in 1999, and it could not live to Quake III. The price is extremely hard to control, it does not respond to commands immediately, the camera moves wildly and very difficult to see in enclosed traps, etc. The end, with timed 150 seconds for battling the bad guy is definitely not enough unless you are a master. You work against the controlling of the prince as well as the bad guy. More work could be done to the betterment of this game, but I think the company has discontinued.
