Prince of Persia

Prince of Persia Review

As a fan of the newer Prince Of Persia series (Sands of Time, Warrior Within, Two Thrones), I can say that I wasn't really disappointed with the latest edition in the franchise. The story is supposed to be a different arc from the original three; the first in a new trilogy supposedly. Hence the prince is new character in this one, but as in all the previous POP's, a character you can get attached to. This also applies to the character Elika in the new "companion character" feature.

I noticed some other reviewers giving the gameplay a big thumbs down. I will make mention that the game does seem a lot easier from the last games. I found most of the enemies fairly easy to beat with little keyboard smashing/antics, and There is also a lot of room for error with the new elika save system. However, I feel that this was due mainly to the fact that the developers wanted to take a new direction with some of the gameplay elements and also wanted to work on a new storytelling system, using live character action rather than cutscenes. So in essence a new cell-shaded rendering system, a new companion character system, a new "storytelling" system. The developers are probably just cutting their teeth on the new system. The Sands of Time was also a bit repetitive, but the story was great. It's like the same thing here in my opinion.

Besides, any fan of the series wouldn't just settle for beating the enemies in an easy non-flashy way. The choice is completely up to you. You can learn the new combo system to pull off fantastic looking and devastating moves; and you don't have to flail yourself off a cliff and have elika save you just to get a light-seed ..... you can actually choose to do it in such a way that she doesn't have to save you... how about that.

The game can be as much or as little as you are able/willing to play it, and as always I love how they do their stories! If you are a real fan of the series, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. I can't really comment for other gamers. But I thought it was a good play.

I regret purchasing this game. - Michael Gage - Davis, CA USA
Though I find the graphics to be nice, the game play bored me to tears. I found the combat to be painfully slow (not because of my computer) and boring... and getting saved every time I fell off a cliff took away any sense of 'on the edge of my seat' anticipation. I only played for about 2 hours. I'm not sure if I'll play again considering I have the option of going outside and watching grass grow, which is a little more interesting.

should never have been ported to this platform - Caraculiambro - La Mancha and environs
Certainly a very playable game with good graphics and storyline. My beef is that it requires so much jumping and distance-gauging that it simply doesn't work on a PC -- unless you have one of those Playstation-type controllers. Otherwise mousing the camera with the right-hand and arrowing with the left leaves you with few fingers for anything else.

Great game - Mister B -
I love the 3rd-person parkour-style game play. Very fluid motion, fluid animation, and gorgeous graphics. The soundtrack is pretty good, too, but the voice acting is not as high in quality. It's also kind of easy, but the challenge lies in using as little assistance as possible, not in being squarshed by your enemies constantly. I like the flow, myself, but not everyone will.

A Frightening New Enemy and a Powerful Ally
As Ahriman, the god of Darkness is released so are his minions of monstrous slaves. The most dangerous and powerful set against the Prince is known as "the Hunter." Once a human prince himself, the Hunter was raised in opulent decadence and detached from the day-to-day world. His only passion was for the drama and brutality of the hunt, but soon passion grew to obsession. After killing every variety of beast known, he grew bored and too bold. Recognizing an opportunity Ahriman appeared to him and offered a bargain, a hunt against the most dangerous beasts the world has to offer in return for his soul. Foolishly he accepted and was transformed from man into demonic beast and was hunted by men from all over the world. His all-consuming rage made easy work of the hunters set against him, but also bound him to Ahriman for eternity.

But wherever there is evil, there is also a counter balance to it. Following the defeat and imprisonment of Ahriman, his brother Ormazd, the god of Light, left the world in the care of his servants, the Ahuras, guardians of the tree of life. The Prince’s new ally, Elika, is one of those guardians. Beautiful and mysterious she is a powerful AI companion who accompanies players throughout the game. Filled with an unknown power, she will be helpful in all aspects of gameplay, including acrobatics, combat and puzzle-solving as players quest to rid the land from Ahriman's corruption.
