Prince of Persia 2 Warrior Within

Prince of Persia 2 Warrior Within Review

Prince of Persia : Warrior Within for the PS2 is a darker sequel to the original Prince of Persia game. Where the first game was light and almost musical in its fluid grace, this latest Persia game is dark, violent, and has throbbing heavy-guitar soundtrack.

The hallmark of the original Prince of Persia game was its amazing motion and graphics. The prince would jump up ledges, run along walls, somersault, and all the while the banners would be blowing in the breeze, a cloak would be fluttering, torches would be flickering. It was really beautiful.

In addition, Prince of Persia had a time system where you could go back or forward in time. This added a really interesting element to puzzles, where you had to figure out if "backing up" the time would help you solve the situation.

Skip forward to this current release, Warrior Within. The prince is definitely dark and angry now. The levels are all much darker visually and in emotion. Monsters spew blood. Body parts come ripping off. The prince's moves are angular, angry, full of power. He's still solving puzzles and skipping through time, but it is with a dark stare.

This game is rated M for MATURE and this is very apparent. It's not the whore-slaying modern issues of Grand Theft Auto, but it's definitely violent. It's a game about rage and violence. It's not something to get for the younger tykes.

The sound is very well done, with the voice acting, additional noises, and the throbbing soundtrack. That being said, if hammering guitar and hoarse yelling isn't your type of music, you might get tired VERY quickly with this. There are missions that should be stealthy and it's sometimes hard to get into that mood.

The graphics, as mentioned, are gorgeous. Maybe a bit TOO dark at times, but that's the mood they're going for.

All in all a very fun game, the graphics still stun, and adult gamers will appreciate the immersion into an alternate (violent) reality.

Very Different from Sands of Time... - S. E. Flowers - Indiana
After playing Sands of Time, I had to get this one, and they are very different... Parents be advised that the rating on the game did go up, and that is because it is much more graphic (more blood and "beautiful" women wearing revealing clothing) and contains some profanity. The moves are a lot more advanced and technical in this game as well. It's still a lot of fun to play, but it seems like you're running around not sure what you're suppose to be doing a lot more often in this one than in Sands of Time - which had a more linear storyline and an easy to follow plot.

Replay value is way up there! - Laurence Click - Nevada City, CA United States
Prince of Persian 2: Warrior Within is probably my all-time favorite game. I pull it out every now and then and play it again. Not only are the graphics gorgeous, but the puzzles and the fighting are good. I own 4 titles in the Prince of Persia Series. Sands of Time comes in a close second, but the fighting moves in Warrior Within are better. I found the gameplay in The Two Thrones a bit too challenging for me. I am currently playing the new XBOX 360 POP and have not completed it, but so far, Warrior Within is better. For single player mode (which is what I mostly do) there isn't a better title IMHO.

Excellent. - Mike Samson - Sacramento,CA
This game is awesome. The storyline is amazing and the gameplay is just like the previous game except there are more abilities like more stylish combat, attacking while running across a wall, the ability to slide down a curtain to a lower area, and being able to pick up any weapon either from a downed enemy or from a weapon rack. The game can also have an alternate ending. Athough the first time you play this game through,it might be a little confusing, where you have to travel back and forth through time, some might not find it very fun.Overall the gameplay is awesome, the music is great instead of just persian music it has a badass hardrock score, graphics are good as good as you would find on a playstation 2 game, what I liked about this game most was the environment/landscape such as vegetation filled gardens, palace ruins, courtyards, caves, and secret passageways.
